There’s a possibility that the Delhi government will require PUC certificates for filling up gas tanks

Delhi crumble

Is Delhi is about to crumble ? And the answer is no because the Delhi government will soon make the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate mandatory for filling fuel at pumps to ensure that polluting vehicles do not ply in the national capital. The PUC certificate is an important tool for controlling vehicular exhaust emissions for automobiles issued through registered PUC centers.

Gopal Rai, the Environment Minister, stated, “The Arvind Kejriwal government has proposed a highly ambitious agenda. With this policy in place, automobiles will be required to have their PUC certificate with them at the fueling station. North India, including Delhi, suffers from severe air pollution, particularly in the winter. As a result, the pollution levels of each and every car in the state will be monitored on a regular basis.”

Air pollution

The pollution under control (PUC) certificate, which is provided by registered PUC centers, is a key tool for reducing automotive exhaust emissions. There are approximately 966 such centers in Delhi, which are distributed over ten zones.

They play an important role in monitoring vehicular pollution and verifying vehicles’ compliance with emission standards. Pollution Level Test Inspectors also conduct random checks to guarantee that the PUC centers issue accurate certificates.

Air

Given the importance of non-polluting automobiles on the road in the middle of Delhi’s poor air quality levels, it has been proposed to make PUC certification necessary for refuelling of vehicles at Petrol Pumps in Delhi, based on department experience.

Along with the policy’s approval, the government is trying to establish technology-based procedures for the policy’s effective implementation, ensuring that car owners and fuel station owners are not inconvenienced and that there are no long lines due to PUC certificate checks.

The Delhi government stated in a statement that while the particular processes are still being worked out, these ways might include RFID technology.

What exactly is a PUC certificate?

A PUC Certificate is one of the most vital documents to be familiar with if you want to be a responsible vehicle owner/rider in India.

A PUC Certificate, also known as a Pollution Under Control Certificate, is a document that certifies that your vehicle’s emissions are under the legally allowable limit. It’s a crucial part of making sure your bike doesn’t pollute the environment more than it has to and that your carbon footprint is kept to a minimum. It is required by law in order to legally operate a car on Indian roads, and it also allows you to be a responsible citizen.

Why PUC certificate is so pivotal?

Being a responsible citizen necessitates the possession of a PUC Certificate. Read on to learn about some of the reasons why it is essential to have.

Punishment for criminal behaviour

Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act makes such an offence punishable. You must pay a fine of Rs 1000 the first time you commit such an error. If you do it again, you could face a fine of up to Rs 2000. The state transportation agency has set fees for pollution checks. This, however, is quite uncommon. This is what it is: For petrol, LPG, and CNG cars, the cost is Rs 25; for diesel vehicles, the cost is Rs 50. It then instructs you to create a new certificate within the specified time frame.
